Home Page Customization
THIS PAGE DESCRIBES FEATURES OF THE UPCOMING VERSION 3.3
This page describes the layout and customization options of the (widgets-based) Stationsweb home page.
The setting can be found in: Station Operator Settings > Home / Widgets
Widgets represent individual weather station measurements, such as:
- Temperature
- Humidity
- Dewpoint
- Wind Speed
- Rainfall
- UV Index
- Air Pressure
Groups organize related widgets together to improve readability and navigation.
For example, a Temperatures group may contain:
- Air Temperature
- Feels Like Temperature
- Dewpoint
- Wind Chill
- Indoor Temperature
Independent of the layout modes described below, widgets without available sensor data are automatically hidden.
Example:
If the weather station does not provide UV measurements, the UV widget remains part of the layout configuration but is not shown in the interface until data becomes available.
Layout Modes
Two layout modes are available:
- Auto
- Custom
Auto Layout
The Auto layout automatically organizes widgets into predefined groups and orders them by relevance.
This mode is recommended for most users because it requires no manual setup and automatically adapts to the available sensor data.
Features:
- Automatic widget grouping
- Automatic relevance-based ordering
- Clean default organization
- Minimal maintenance
- Automatic support for newly available sensors
Before displaying the layout, groups are automatically ordered based on sensor relevance.
For example, on rainy days the precipitation group is higher up than on sunny days.
Default Auto Layout Structure
The automatic layout organizes widgets into several predefined groups.
- Temperatures
- Air Temperature
- Feels Like Temperature
- Dewpoint
- Extra Temperature Sensors
- Indoor Temperature
- Wind Chill
- Forecast & Condition
- Forecast
- Current Weather Condition or Report
- Snow Height
- Atmosphere
- Barometric Pressure
- Wind Speed
- Wind Gusts
- Humidity
- Indoor Humidity
- Extra Humidity Sensors
- Air Quality
- Precipitation
- Rain Amount
- Rain Rate
- Sun
- Solar Radiation
- Brightness / Lux
- UV Index
- Sunshine Hours
- Agriculture
- Leaf Wetness
- Wet Bulb Temperature
- Soil Moisture Sensors
Custom Layout
The Custom layout allows complete manual control over:
- Group creation
- Group ordering
- Widget assignment
- Widget ordering inside groups
Unlike the Auto layout:
- Group order is static (automatic relevancy sorting is disabled)
Customizing Groups
Each group contains several controls. At the top-left of each group is a dropdown selector for the group name/type.
The selector contains predefined group names.
Rules:
- Each group name can only be used once
- The “Ungrouped” group behaves differently as described below
To the right of the group name selector are three buttons. The move up/down buttons move the group higher/lower in the layout order. The remove group button deletes the group.
When a group is removed:
- The group itself is deleted
- Widgets assigned to the group become unassigned
- Widgets are not deleted from the system
Customizing Widgets in Groups
Reordering Widgets
Each group contains a reorderable list of assigned widgets.
Widgets can be reordered using drag and drop.
Example workflow:
- Click and hold a widget
- Drag it to a new position
- Release to apply
- Save the settings
Removing Widgets from a Group
Each widget row contains a remove button on the far right. Selecting this button removes the widget from the current group. The widget then becomes unassigned and can be added elsewhere.
Unassigned Widgets
Widgets that are not assigned to any group are displayed at the top of the page.
Although unassigned widgets remain available, assigning every widget is strongly recommended.
Even if a weather station does not currently provide the corresponding sensor data, pre-assigning widgets helps maintain a consistent and future-proof layout.
Widgets without available data remain hidden automatically until data becomes available.
Adding Widgets to a Group
At the bottom of each group is an Add Widget button. Selecting this button opens the list of available widgets that are not already assigned.
Each widget can only appear once in the layout.
Moving Widgets between Groups
To move a widget between groups:
- Remove the widget from its current group
- Add it to the target group
- Reorder the widget in its new group if necessary.
Direct drag-and-drop between groups is not supported.
Special Group: Ungrouped
The Ungrouped group behaves differently from normal groups.
When a group uses the Ungrouped name:
- The group border is hidden
- The collapse option is not displayed
This allows widgets to appear directly in the layout without visible grouping containers.
The Ungrouped group is useful for:
- Minimal layouts
- Highlighted widgets
- Important standalone measurements
Reset to Factory Defaults
The “Reset defaults” button at the top of the customization menu restores the original default layout configuration.
This resets:
- Group ordering
- Widget ordering
- Widget assignments
- Custom groups
Weather Warnings
When available, weather warnings issued by national weather services are displayed at the very top of the homepage.
These warnings may include:
- Severe weather alerts
- Storm warnings
- Snow and ice warnings
- Heat warnings
- Flood alerts
- Wind warnings
Weather warning support depends on the country and the availability of supported warning providers.
As a result, warnings are not available for every location.
Disabling Weather Warnings
Weather warnings can be disabled by the station operator.
When disabled, warning banners are no longer displayed on the homepage.
Homepage Selection
The station operator can configure if the modern widget-based layout or tabular layout should be used for:
- The root address (
/) - The legacy
index.phpaddress
This setting determines which homepage version is opened by default.
The setting can be found in: Station Operator Settings > General
Regardless of the selected homepage mode:
- Both homepage versions remain accessible
- Both versions are available through the navigation menu
Tips & Recommendations
Prefer the Auto Layout
For most users, the Auto layout is recommended.
Benefits include:
- Automatic addition of new widgets
- Automatic organization
- Relevance-based ordering
- No manual maintenance
Use the Custom layout only when specific manual organization is required.
Assign Every Widget
Assigning every widget to a group is strongly recommended, even if your weather station does not currently provide all sensor data.
Benefits include:
- Easier future hardware upgrades
- Reduced future configuration work
Widgets without data remain hidden automatically until valid measurements become available.
Keep Related Widgets Together
For the best layout readability:
- Keep similar measurements together
- Use meaningful group categories
