History of AWEKAS

The first AWEKAS page.

Our Beginning

The origins of AWEKAS date back to the early 2000s when Othmar Gattringer started building a system that allowed a community of weather-enthusiasts to share data from their private weather stations and visualize it on automatic map overlays. The name AWEKAS derives from the German “Automatisches WEtter-KArten System”, reflecting our core purpose: to automatically collect, visualize and disseminate weather station data. In those early years the platform was relatively modest, but it set the groundwork for what would grow into a robust network of thousands of weather stations, unified through a shared portal.

What We Do Today

Today, we connect thousands of private and semi-professional weather stations from around the world into one unified, real-time network. Our platform automatically gathers, processes, and visualizes weather data — giving users instant access to local conditions such as temperature, wind, humidity, precipitation, and atmospheric pressure.

Almost all major weather stations and weather software — including brands like Davis, Ecowitt, Bresser, WeatherLink, Meteobridge, and Weather Display — offer direct interfaces to AWEKAS, making it easy to link your station with our network in just a few steps.

AWEKAS continues to serve as a trusted bridge between individual weather enthusiasts and the global meteorological community — transforming local measurements into a powerful, collective source of real-time weather insight.

A major milestone in our evolution came in 2016 with the launch of the AWEKAS Stationsweb — a personal website service that allows each station owner to showcase and share their weather data in a professional, customizable format. Since its debut, the Stationsweb has seen continuous development and improvement: new responsive designs, interactive charts, and advanced analytics tools have made it more powerful and user-friendly than ever. Regular updates ensure compatibility with the latest weather hardware and software, keeping the Stationsweb modern and aligned with the needs of our growing community.
