Map Update and Stationsweb Improvements

We just released a small AWEKAS Map update that ships small improvements. AWEKAS Stationsweb Premium now has an additional optional way to access it! Read more about it below.

Map update

We improved the usability of the AWEKAS Map on touchscreen devices! It is now possible to use the touch gestures that you know from other map apps to pan and zoom the map. You can use double tap to zoom in and double-tap and swipe to zoom in and out.

Use the AWEKAS Map as an app!

Did you know that since the latest major AWEKAS Map release it has been usable like an app on iOS and Android? Just open the AWEKAS Map on your smartphone’s browser and follow the steps below. As the AWEKAS Map is a Progressive Web-App this makes it look and feel just like a regular app.

On iOS (Safari)

Since Apple doesn’t show an automatic “Install” prompt, you need to do this manually:

  1. Open Safari and navigate to our website.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with an arrow pointing up) at the bottom of the screen.
  3. Scroll down the list of options and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add in the top right corner. The icon will now appear on your home screen!

On Android (Chrome)

Android makes the process a bit more automated:

  1. Open Chrome and go to our website.
  2. Look for a pop-up banner at the bottom of the screen that says “Add AWEKAS Map to Home Screen” and tap it.
  3. If you don’t see the banner: Tap the three dots (⋮) in the top right corner.
  4. Select Install app (or “Add to Home screen”).
  5. Confirm by tapping Install.

Why install it?

  • Quick Access: Launch the app instantly from your home screen.
  • Full Screen: The browser address bar disappears, giving you more room to see the weather data.

Stationsweb Premium Improvements

With AWEKAS Stationsweb Premium you have the option to bind your Stationsweb page to your own domain (i.e. you can use your example-domain.com instead of stationsweb.awekas.at/en/...). This is done by setting a “CNAME DNS entry” at your DNS server/provider - this setup has to be performed by the weather station’s operator and some technical knowledge is required.

Today we introduce an additional alternative way to streamline access to your Stationsweb page: you can now use a custom subdomain [CUSTOM-SUBDOMAIN].stationsweb.net. The setup is performed by us, so you just have to get in touch and we will set it up for you - zero technical knowledge required!

You can for example use a location name (e.g. vienna.stationsweb.net) or your company’s name (e.g. awekas.stationsweb.net) to access it.
